A little over two years ago I was in a car accident that left me barely able to walk 10 minutes without doubling over in pain. It smacked me at a time in my life when I believed I was just beginning to hit a whole new stride, in health, business, and relationship with myself.
The physical impact threw my hormones out of whack, energy levels into the tank, fitness out the window, and little did I know at the time, but launched me into a whole new playing field of walking my talk, moving through challenge with positive awareness, letting go of other people’s BS, and especially letting go of my own.
A few times a year I get out of town, out of my routine, and into a space of rejuvenation to reset into the moment and gain clarity on where I’ve been and where I’m headed. Sometimes I plan the trips well in advance. Sometimes it’s “get me the F out of here!!!” and I’m off within a few days.
Always, the results are different than what I think they will be. Most recently I swooped myself away for a four day retreat to the San Juan Islands to reboot, reflect, and restore.
I am reminded that I cannot predict the future. And that right now is different than the past. Simple, but not always easy to remember, without taking a moment to see.
I had almost forgotten about the accident, which at the time was such a big part of my experience, but on the second day of my island retreat I had a flashback that left me in awe…
A little while after the accident, I took myself up to the islands to reboot as well, but it was way different that time around. It is so peaceful and quiet up there, strikingly different from the hustle and bustle of Seattle. I suddenly remembered sitting on the couch at night, two years ago. The sun had gone down, the ocean right outside of my front door, and it was dark and silent…except it wasn’t.
I was so wound up my ears were ringing, and the sound was like some low-level-electronica-alien-wave that followed me around inside of my own head. It took almost two days before it released and I could hear the silence that was there.
And when it did, I could finally hear my own voice of truth in that space within, that space for me, where true clarity lives. Once that space is open, it’s fun to ask questions and hear the replies…as the aha’s jump out like sparks ready to ignite.
Aha from 2016…
Don’t let yourself get this wound up again. Keep letting the pressure out. Take more time for yourself on a regular basis. Take care of yourself, both in the moment and by planning ahead. Carve out time, put it on the calendar, and create an updated system of self-care. Yes, you already have a self-care practice in place, and right now you need more. It’s time for a change.
Noted, and done.
I actually implemented this spark and put it into action as part of my daily, quarterly, and annual routines, which have become habit at this point. It doesn’t mean it’s always easy, but it does mean that a huge amount of it is like clockwork – I no longer need to spend the energy TRYING to do these things, they simply happen as they’ve become integrated in my life as it exists now.
Fast forward to 2018 on my last day away this time around. I felt refreshed and reenergized, open and optimistic that I could create or do anything next. When I checked inside for the spark of aha for what my next action would be, this is what I heard…
“Relax.
Just because you have more energy doesn’t mean you need to spend it on some new massive project or task. Let yourself enjoy right now. Business is prosperous. Your clients are amazing. You love your work. Life is filled with wonderful people you love. The time will come when a new project or inspiration is on it’s way. For now, continue to simplify your life (the intention I received and set in spring), and breathe more. Life is good. Things are good. You can walk. You can hear your own voice. You can enjoy your life right now.”
Aha 2018…
Sometimes we just need the reminder and knowing of the simple things. The permission to simply be. Just because you have more energy, doesn’t mean you need to spend it. Practice saying yes and no, even more so, when it feels right to you. Notice even more clearly the difference between ideas and true intuitive inspiration. Follow your intuition each step of the way, even when it “doesn’t make sense.” That is part of the journey right now, and you’re well on your way ;)

Happy solstice, summer, mid-year reboot to you all, and thank you for being here. Whether this is a time for play, rejuvenation, challenge, transition, or all of the above, know that you are loved.
And if you want it, you have it…permission to simply be.
The permission is yours. It always has been, and always will be.
With lots of love from me to you,
Lena
