Check out these hot tips to put a damper on your happiness today:
1. Compare Yourself to Others
Compare yourself to others, especially in a negative way.
How are you not good enough? What do others have that you don’t? What does your real life look like vs someone’s highlight reel on social media?
Dwell on these questions and you’ll be on the road to UN-happiness in no time.
2. Keep Setting the Bar Higher
As soon as you get close to reaching a goal, set a new higher bar to reach so it doesn’t really feel like you’ve accomplished anything.
Do this over and over again.
Bonus: Convince yourself you’re way off track, even though in this present moment you’ve already achieved countless things that you wanted at some point.
3. Don’t Celebrate Easy Wins
If something good happens to you, make sure not to celebrate it, especially if it just lands in your lap!
You didn’t work hard for it? Must not be worth much. That $1million opportunity that just floated your way? Worthless! May as well throw it away.
Remind yourself: “Joy must always be HARD” and you’ll shift into instant UN-happiness like a pro.
4. Base Your Happiness on Your Ability to Predict the Future
That goal you want to reach? That life vision you have in mind? That experience you hope to have?
If what you envisioned doesn’t turn out exactly as you’d planned, or happen on the timeline you’d imagined, make sure to blame yourself for your unique ability to NOT be able to predict the future. Because truly, you’re the only one who can’t.
Rather than acknowledging the infinite pieces at play in life, and the reality we can’t actually fully control anything, make sure to only allow yourself to be happy when your future-telling skills are 100% spot on.
5. Live by Others’ Opinions
What do you really want? Who are you really? What do you care about deep inside?
If you want to be miserable, it doesn’t matter!
Rather than following your own truth to create your path forward, make sure to zig zag through life following other peoples’ opinions, hopes, dreams and fears. You’ll never run out of people to please or opinions to take on, and the possibilities are infinite!
